There are a lot of people who start panicking if their hard drives are damaged or erased. The stored data can range from personal files to important company documents and all of them can be lost very easily. Thanks to Magic Uneraser, you can get most of it back. After a thorough scan, it will find and display your deleted files and you can save them in a different location, on another partition, a removable disk or burn it to a CD or DVD.

From the early Windows 95 version to the late Vista and 7, the Magic Uneraser is compatible with all these operating systems. It can be downloaded fast, due to the small size of the package and the setup process is straightforward.

The user interface works the same way as a normal explorer window. Your disk's partitions, as well as any removable devices, are displayed on the central area of the window. You can browse through any of these either by double clicking icons or making use of the tree structure on the left. When you access a partition, the program will perform a quick file system analysis. You will be able to see all the files on a partition, hidden or otherwise, even the ones which have been deleted. The files can be filtered so you can spot the deleted data easier.

Recovering files can be done with the aid of two wizards. If you find your lost files, you can click and drag them to a list in the lower right corner of the window and launch a recovery wizard by clicking the Recovery button on the toolbar. During the first step of the wizard, you can choose to save the deleted data somewhere on your hard drive, burn it to a CD/DVD, create an ISO image or upload it to a FTP. All the configurations, like specifying an output path, the FPT's address and so on, can be made during the next stages of the wizard.

A more complex wizard can be launched by hitting the Wizard button on the toolbar. This will spare you from browsing any folders. The wizard will ask you to select what drive to scan, what type of files to look for (images, archives, databases and others), as well as what type of scan to perform: normal or deep analysis. After it finds your files, the next few steps will be the same as the ones from the previous wizard.

Magic Uneraser also provides a way to prevent data loss. You can save a disk by creating a .dsk image. The related settings can be done from a small window after clicking the Save Disk button on the toolbar. You can set the software to save the whole disk or part of it by making use of a slider and you can also choose to compress the contents. The created image can be mounted at any time with Magic Uneraser, by clicking the Mount Disk button on the toolbar.

Pros

The interface works just like an explorer window, which makes the program easy to handle. It can recover lost data without too much effort from you.

Cons

When using the trial version, you can find deleted data, but you can not save it. With Magic Uneraser's familiar interface and easy to understand features, you can recover lost data from your hard drive or any portable device.
